They're lesbians. Plain and simple. They don't make any bones about it. Seeking refuge and kindred souls, the women of the Well are drawn together by that which makes them outcasts in the world beyond the smoky cabaret spotlight. Drawing inspiration from the lesbian pulp novels of the 1950s and 60s that were a secret window into a forbidden world of women who love women, Pulp follows the women of The Well, a bar for homosexuals hidden in plain sight in gritty Chicago as they grapple with love for each other and scorn from those who don't understand them. The ladies drown their sorrows at the bottom of the glass and find their voices when the nylons come off to be traded for wingtips and fedoras for the Well's monthly clandestine drag (but "in reverse" as Pepper puts it) cabaret.
